Together in the ecological transition
A JESC project that empowers social actors in their ecological transition, helping communities, institutions, schools, the Church and other organisations understand, measure and reduce their environmental impacts.
A shared journey from understanding to action
The ecological crisis affects nature and people, with the most vulnerable facing its consequences most acutely. The initiative supports social actors as they rethink how they operate, consume and relate to the world around them.
As a project of the Jesuit European Social Centre, it brings ecological conversion into practical organisational work. Participants can understand their environmental impact and identify pathways towards more sustainable and just ways of operating and living.
Some assessments quantify emissions across operational or lifestyle areas, while others create space for qualitative reflection and conversation around ecological living.
Assessment, interpretation and a route forward
The source describes a supported process rather than a fixed one-size-fits-all programme. The form of assessment and output depend on the actor and its context.
Choose an appropriate model
Ecological assessment models are tailored to different actors, needs and levels of ambition.
Gather information
Partners contribute information progressively through forms, surveys and tools adapted to their context.
Interpret the findings
The team analyses material to produce audit reports, scenarios or reflective summaries, depending on the model.
Shape a practical roadmap
The findings support a tailored pathway for reducing environmental impact. A self-managed option is also described.
Different pathways for different social actors
Quantitative assessment
Models assess emissions across operational or lifestyle areas.
Qualitative reflection
Models foster reflection and conversation around ecological living.

Ecological transition rooted in social justice
The JESC Carbon Initiative is a project of the Jesuit European Social Centre. It connects practical environmental assessment with JESC's wider commitment to ecological conversion, justice and care for our common home.
